Classic Old Fashioned

Story time. So I used to date this guy that went nuts for Old Fashioneds. It was all the man drank, and he could easily polish off ten in a setting. Once he called me on a work trip to complain that the bartender gave him regular Maker’s instead of Maker’s 46, which he could tell just from taste. We took a trip to San Diego so he could go to this whiskey-only bar. They had nothing, absolutely nothing, but whiskey, so I sipped an ice water while he droned on and on about the differences between rye and bourbon and blah, blah, blah.

Well, spoiler alert, it didn’t work out, and I spent years loathing whiskey everything, especially Old Fashioneds just because of one singular man so it’s an absolute fucking miracle this one made it on the list. But trust me when I say Al Solito Posto in Las Vegas just does this classic cocktail right. It’s starts with the frozen glass and the crystal clear cube of ice. A cube of sugar, a dash of Angostura bitters, and topped with the Luxardo cherry, an accouterment that stands alone in the cocktail garnish game. Then the block of ice is hand stamped with the AS signature logo. A strong cocktail with just enough sweetness in a near perfect presentation - it’s the closest to perfection I’ve ever seen and just $10 on happy hour weekdays. Like What. The. Fuck.
