Day 2 of my silo search started in Horsham. I absolutely love Smug’s other silos and was so excited to see this one. Upon getting there, I can’t lie that I was a little bit disappointed. Due to the corrugated material of the fence and the position of the sun, it was very hard to see it let alone capture it in photo. The photos below have been color graded in order to see the images better but were significantly darker in real life. If you’re planning on visiting, I’d suggest going later in the day.
Smug completed this silo in May of 2022. The man pictured was Yanggendyinanyuk, a notable figure in the Wimmera region in the 1800’s. According to legend, he was a talented tracker. In 1864 three small children were lost in the wilderness. After eight days of fruitless searches, Yang was brought in as a last ditch effort. A heavy rain had washed away all traces, but he managed to locate the children, barely alive, just before sunset. He was also one of the thirteen Aboriginal men to form Australia’s first cricket team to tour England. You can check out his full story here.

Because of the material of the fencing and the direction of the silos, viewing is best done later in the day.
